“I don’t want you to listen to me. I want you to listen to the scientists.” —Greta Thunberg to United States Congress, preceding Global Climate Strike 2019.
On Friday, September 20 2019, millions of young people and allies walked out of their schools and workplaces to demand that political leaders take action to address the climate crisis.
The foremost demand was that these leaders need to unite behind scientific evidence predicting global warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 50%-70% over the next 8 years.
In solidarity with scientists, Science Exchange joined the youth-led global strike on Friday, supporting children in speaking out against fossil fuel use and promoting conservation.
In the words of our children:
“Please help keep our green spaces green.”
“Please ban single-use plastics.”
“Please protect our waters and marine life.”
“The future is ours.”
“We’ll be watching you.”
